Basting stitch disaster on a muslin for a Brooklyn bridal order
My basting stitches pulled right through the silk organza on a fitting last Tuesday, so I switched to hand tacking with a finer needle and it held up perfectly, has anyone else had machine basting fail on delicate fabrics like that?

Machine tension is like a lot of things in life, you think you've got it figured out until the fabric fights back. Hand tacking is always the safer bet on organza, that stuff has zero give and the smallest needle makes all the difference. Same thing happens with cheap elastic on a swimsuit, you pull it one way and the whole thing unravels. It's funny how the delicate stuff always teaches you to slow down, but the lesson never sticks until something rips.
