Finally got the sleeve drape right on a wool coat after 4 mockups

The armhole kept pulling across the back, and it took me three weeks to figure out I needed to add a 1/4 inch wedge to the side seam. Anyone else wrestle with heavy fabric tailoring like this?

Three weeks for a quarter inch, that's some serious dedication.

Honestly that sounds like overkill for a quarter inch. I'd just steam and stretch the fabric into place.

@karenc20 Have you ever had that method cause the fabric to shrink back later?

Three weeks soaking for a quarter inch seems reasonable to me. Ngl, I've had steaming relax things too much and cause weird puckering later, while the soak method keeps the fibers stable. Honestly, the slow approach avoids that shrink-back problem since the fabric sets evenly.
