Had a zipper blowout on a jacket I designed at 3am before a showcase

I was in my studio in Brooklyn about 2 weeks ago, finishing up a line of utility vests for a small showcase. One of the main zippers just ripped right off the track when I tested it, like 2 hours before I had to leave. I panicked and tried sewing it back with a hand stitch, but it looked terrible and the zipper pull was all crooked. Ended up cutting off the whole zipper and replacing it with big 2-inch metal snaps I had lying around from another project. It actually looked cooler and more industrial, but now I wonder if snaps are just better for frequent opening and closing. Has anyone else had to redesign a closure on the fly like that and had it work out?

Yeah raw metal is key. @craig.parker hit it. Better grip.

Did you wax the snaps or are they raw metal?

My buddy had a similar thing happen with a motorcycle jacket he was making. He was trying to put in a chunky separating zipper but it kept getting stuck and ripping the teeth. At like midnight he just said screw it and sewed in these huge brass snaps he found at a flea market. They looked way more badass than the zipper ever did. Now he says he can open and close the jacket faster than anyone with a traditional zipper. The only downside is if you don't hit the snap just right sometimes it pops open when you lean forward. But he swears by them now for any outerwear piece.
