My sister said my designs were too 'safe' and it got me thinking

We were looking at my sketchbook last weekend and she pointed at a jacket design. She said, 'This is nice, but it looks like something you'd already see. Where's the weird part?' That hit different because she's not even into fashion, she's a graphic designer. She told me her best work comes from adding one element that feels wrong at first. I've been sticking to clean lines and known fabrics for years, afraid to mess up. Now I'm trying to add that one 'wrong' thing to each piece. For my next project, I'm putting heavy waxed canvas with delicate silk lining, just to see. Has anyone else tried forcing a clash like that on purpose?
