TIL the average person only wears 20% of their closet, found that in a book at the airport.

That makes me wonder if we should design clothes that work harder, or just accept we like having options. What's a better goal for designers, versatility or variety?

I used to think variety was everything, but honestly I'd rather have a few pieces that actually work together.

That stat about only wearing 20% of the closet is so real. I totally get what @angelamurphy means about wanting pieces that work together. I switched to a mostly neutral color palette a few years back, like grays and tans, and now I can mix almost everything I own. It cut down on the "I have nothing to wear" feeling a lot.

Yeah that whole closet stat is wild. I read this thing once about how astronauts have these special jumpsuits with like, pockets that turn into tools and stuff. Always stuck with me. Makes you wonder why my best jeans can't just zip off into decent shorts when it gets hot, you know? We're over here with closets full of one-job clothes.
