Used to sketch everything by hand until I tried digital pattern drafting last month

I spent years doing all my fashion designs with paper and pencil, sketching out every idea before cutting fabric. Last month I finally borrowed a friend's old tablet and gave digital pattern drafting a shot using some free software. Within two hours I had made a bodice pattern that would have taken me half a day to draw out by hand. The undo button alone is a game changer when you screw up a line or change your mind about a neckline. Now I'm thinking about buying my own setup but I'm not sure if the learning curve is worth it for someone who works mostly with natural fabrics. Has anyone else made this switch and stuck with it for actual garment construction?

oh man i used to be one of those people who was like "digital drafting is for people who cant draw" and i totally ate my words last year. i borrowed a friend's wacom for a weekend and it completely changed how i think about pattern making. the undo button thing you mentioned is huge yeah but for me the biggest surprise was how easy it was to tweak curves and darts without starting over. i mostly work with linen and cotton blends so i was worried the software would be too technical for those fabrics but honestly its just faster once you get the basics down. the learning curve is real for like the first week but after that you start wondering why you ever did it the old way.

The part about "tweaking curves and darts without starting over" really hit home for me. I spent years redrawing sleeve caps and armholes by hand every time I messed up a measurement. Digital changed that completely for me too. You can just grab a point and drag it into position, and the whole curve updates smooth as butter. I still keep a paper sketchbook for rough ideas though. Something about pen and paper for the first draft just feels right.
