Warning: that fabric vendor at the LA garment district talked me into a deal I regret
This guy at a stall near Maple Ave swore his silk was deadstock from a luxury brand, but after one wash it frayed like cheap poly. He kept saying 'trust me, I've been doing this 20 years' while I handed over $300 - has anyone else gotten burned by those smooth-talking wholesalers?

Man that hurts just reading it. My first trip to the garment district I bought what I thought was deadstock linen from a guy who swore it was from some fancy Italian mill. Ended up being tablecloth fabric from a restaurant supply place, shrunk three sizes in one wash and turned into the world's ugliest napkin. The guy probably has been doing it 20 years, but that just means he's had 20 years to perfect his spiel on newbies like us.

Three washes in and that linen would have softened up real nice though.

Three washes later and you've just got a very expensive, very stiff placemat, which is its own kind of souvenir. @mason_murray8 probably still has that napkin somewhere as a cautionary tale.
