Was totally against high-low hemlines until I saw a dress on someone at the park

I used to think those dresses with the short front and long back looked like someone forgot to finish the hem. My sister tried to talk me into one for a wedding last year and I refused. Then last month I'm at this little playground near my house in Portland and this mom is chasing her kid in this floaty high-low sundress. It actually looked really cute in motion and didn't get tangled up in the grass like my maxi dress always does. Now I'm thinking about trying to sew one for myself. When did you guys first come around on a trend you hated?

Oh man, I was exactly the same. Hated that look hard. Then I made one for my niece's birthday party out of necessity. Wanted to run around but needed something that didn't look like trash. Key is the fabric. Flowy stuff works way better than stiff cotton. Also keep the front just above the knee. Too short looks like a bad apron. You're right about the grass thing too. Best thing I ever did was add pockets to mine.

Gotta disagree on the knee thing, just below the knee hides leg chafing way better.

Drove me crazy how everyone wore those tops that look like a curtain rod fell on them, especially the high-low thing. Then I saw my neighbor's daughter in one at a block party where they were doing that slow-mo twirl for photos and I literally said "oh wait that's actually fire" out loud. The way it catches the air and flows is totally different in real life than in those over-edited online store photos. She let me try it on and I got why my sister was pushing for it - that front shortness keeps you cool but the back gives you that dramatic swish when you walk, so it hits both practical and cute. I still think some of them look like fancy aprons, but the right fabric and length can really change the whole vibe.
