I was totally set on a new build until I toured a 1970s ranch last month

For the past year, I was only looking at new construction neighborhoods, thinking I wanted everything modern and zero problems. My realtor in Charlotte finally talked me into seeing this older place that just hit the market. The second I walked in, the layout just felt right, you know? It had these huge oak trees in the yard and a finished basement the listing didn't even show well. The inspection came back solid, and the seller had already put in a new roof and HVAC. Now I'm under contract on it, and the idea of fixing up a few things myself actually seems fun instead of scary. Has anyone else bought an older home and been surprised by how much they liked it?

What's the first thing you plan to fix up yourself?

Ever thought about fixing the one thing that annoys you every single morning? For me, it's that stupid cabinet door that won't stay shut.

My kitchen has three cabinet doors that never close right. @blair990, it feels like those small broken things add up to a bigger sense of things being out of order. You fix one and suddenly you notice all the others.

Took me forever to get over the new build hype @charlieh74 but now I get it.
