Kitchen island vs. dining table, picked wrong and paid for it

I chose a big kitchen island thinking it'd double as our eating spot, but after 8 months in our Cincinnati condo I realized stools don't work for actual meals. We bought a small drop-leaf table for $300 and it's made the biggest difference in how we use the space, has anyone else had that regret after closing?

Is a kitchen island ever really a good place to eat a proper meal? Honestly, stools are fine for a quick coffee or snack, but for dinner with a plate and a drink, they totally suck. My back hated leaning over the counter, and my elbows felt like they were in my own food. We ended up doing the exact same thing, got a tiny table in the corner and it saved our sanity. The island is still great for cooking and prep, but trying to use it as a dining room was a huge mistake. Ngl, I feel your pain, but that $300 table might be the best money you spent all year.
