The day I got outbid by a cash offer and then found a better deal
Last month I had this wild week where I put an offer on a cute 3 bed in Austin for $350k. Got beat out by an all cash buyer who offered $20k over asking, felt awful. But then three days later my agent called about a house that just hit the market that needed a little work but was way better for the same price. Ended up closing on it for $345k and got a $5k credit for new windows. Has anyone else lost a bid only to find something better right after?

Oh man that's basically exactly what happened to me last year. I was so bummed about losing this bungalow in my neighborhood to a cash buyer who went way over asking and then literally the next week found a fixer upper that ended up being way more square footage for less money. Sometimes the universe just works out weird like that.

Ngl, this whole thread is giving me whiplash. One minute you're crying over a lost bungalow, the next you're somehow winning the lottery on a fixer-upper. @adam414 is probably right, but let's be real, the universe definitely had a sarcastic sense of humor here. It's like it was saying "Oh, you wanted that cute little house? Here's a bigger one with peeling wallpaper, good luck." Honestly, that's not even bad luck, that's just the housing market playing hard to get.

Whoa hold on, I think you might be mixing up a couple things. The universe didn't work out weird for you, it worked out because you kept looking after a setback. Losing that bungalow stung but then you found a fixer upper with more room for less cash. That's not random luck, that's you refusing to give up and then making the right call on a different property. Too many people would've just sat around feeling bad instead of jumping on that next opportunity.
