Unpopular opinion: skip the home inspection if the house is less than 10 years old
I was at a closing in Charlotte last year and the lawyer told me I was an idiot for waiving the inspection on a 2018 build. But honestly, I saved $500 and found the only issue was a loose toilet flange myself, which took 20 minutes to fix. Anyone else think inspections are overhyped on newer construction?

My buddy bought a 2019 townhouse in Raleigh and skipped the inspection, ended up finding a cracked main drain pipe three months later. Cost him $4,000 to fix. I did the same on my 2020 condo though and it was fine, so I guess it's a gamble either way.

Nah, @bell.jessica, I disagree - skipping an inspection is just BEGGING for trouble.

Isn't it crazy how we'll drop thousands on a new fridge but balk at a few hundred bucks for a professional to look at the biggest purchase we'll ever make? Seems like the same logic that makes people skip oil changes on brand new cars because "nothing could be wrong yet." We've gotten so used to instant gratification that we forget that even new stuff has hidden flaws that only a trained eye can spot.
