Watch out for the inspector who offers to do your repairs
A guy in Greenville walked through my inspection and then handed me his business card saying he could fix everything he just flagged for half the price. Two weeks later the county found the roof patch he did wasn't even permitted, and I was out $1,800 before closing even happened. Has anyone else run into this setup, and how do you verify who you're actually hiring?

That happened to my cousin over in Spartanburg. The trick that worked for us was pulling the license number off the truck and looking it up on the state board site before he ever touched anything. Took five minutes on my phone and sure enough, his license was expired by a year.

That's a smart system honestly. Used to think pulling the license plate was enough, figured if they had plates and insurance they must be legit. But after hearing about your cousin's situation, I get why you need to go the extra step. The state board lookup is free and takes less time than arguing with someone about their expired credentials. Makes you wonder how many folks out there are working without anyone checking. Probably more than we'd like to admit.
