Overheard a recruiter at a co-working space say they filter out Upwork freelancers who list more than 3 skills
I was at a shared office in Brooklyn last Thursday and this hiring manager told her buddy that if your Upwork profile has a giant skill list, she assumes you're a jack of all trades and master of none. Made me rethink my own profile since I have like 8 things on there. Has anyone else heard specific things recruiters hate seeing on profiles?

Did she name any specific skills that send up red flags?

Oh come ON, are you serious? I literally CHOKED on my coffee when I read that part. She actually went on a whole rant about "strategic thinking" being a red flag because she said it's code for "I want to boss everyone around without doing any real work." I mean, I get being skeptical about buzzwords but that's a pretty normal skill to list. She also called out "cross-functional collaboration" as a huge warning sign. Said it means the person can't get anything done on their own and needs other people to hold their hand. Wild take honestly.

Did she say how long she actually spends looking at a profile before making that call? Like is it just a quick scan or does she actually read through things?
