That one guy on Reddit who said to always charge a rush fee

Saw this post from some user called FreelanceWarrior23 last year saying you should tack on a 50% rush fee for any deadline under 3 days. I thought it was extreme, like who would pay that? But last month a client on Fiverr came at me with a 48 hour turnaround for a 15 page pitch deck. I quoted my normal rate plus the 50% rush fee and they actually agreed. Got paid $675 for something I usually charge $450 for. Made me wonder how many gigs I've been leaving money on the table before that. Has anyone else tried something similar and gotten pushback from clients?

Man that's wild but also kind of awesome" is exactly how I felt too. It's crazy how fast people agree when they're desperate. I think we've been trained to feel guilty about charging more, but why? Clients are just paying for the hassle. I'm still kicking myself for all those last minute jobs I did at standard rates before I learned this trick.

Man that's wild but also kind of awesome. I had a similar thing happen with a logo project. Client needed it in 2 days for some conference and I threw on a 40% rush fee and they just said "ok". I sat there staring at my screen for a minute wondering if I could have charged double. It definitely makes you second guess every quote you've ever given.
