Upwork interview in a hotel lobby, client ghosted mid-sentence
Flew to Austin for a face-to-face with a client who wanted $3,000 of website copy. We met in their hotel lobby bar. Everything clicked for 20 minutes. Then the client stood up, said "my boss changed his mind," and walked out. No email after. No kill fee. Total loss on the flight and two days of prep. Anyone else had a client pull the plug in public like that? How do you protect yourself when they demand in-person meetings?
