Vent: Lost a $2,500 Upwork contract because I didn't read the client's mind about timezones
Client in Sydney fired me after I missed a 3 AM deadline they never mentioned in the brief, now I always confirm timezone expectations before accepting a job.

3 AM deadline" - that's a red flag right there.

Did I ever tell you about the time I agreed to a 4 AM "urgent meeting" back in college? Turns out it was just my friend who locked his keys in the car and needed a ride, definitely not worth the panic. So yeah, I feel you on the red flag vibe with those crazy late hour deadlines.

The 3 AM thing reminds me of that old saying about how nothing good happens after midnight... but seriously, a deadline that late is almost always someone trying to push their own panic onto you. I've seen it happen at a few different places I've worked, where a manager would set these insane hours just to see who would jump. Usually it's not about the actual work, it's about testing how much control they have over you. If someone sets a 3 AM deadline and it's not for something legit like a server going down or a life or death situation, they're probably not going to respect your time in general.
