A guy in Spokane talked me into trying glue down on concrete, and I owe him a beer
I figured floating was the only way to go over slab, but he showed me his 12 year old glue down job in a garage and it had zero hollow spots. Anyone else switch over after years of floating, or am I late to this party?
The "zero hollow spots after 12 years" part is what gets me, because most glue down fails I've seen didn't fail at the glue. They failed at the slab. Moisture coming up through concrete will eat the adhesive bond from below no matter how good the trowel notch was. So the real question isn't glue down vs floating, it's whether that garage slab had a vapor barrier and how dry it tests. A guy who pulls off 12 years usually did the boring prep work first and just didn't mention it.
