Comparing glue down vs nail down for engineered hardwood in a wet basement nearly cost me a job

I had a job last month in a basement near Portland that had some moisture issues. The homeowner wanted engineered hardwood and I was stuck between glue down and nail down methods. I tested a small area with both approaches using the same brand of wood and adhesive. The glue down held up way better after I poured water on both sections and let it sit for 24 hours. That nail down stuff started cupping at the edges while the glue down barely showed any change. Has anyone else used glue down in tricky damp spots like crawlspaces or basements and regretted it later?

That line about testing a small area with both methods really shows how some things just work better when you actually try them instead of guessing. Reminds me of how people overthink simple stuff all the time like they pick a complicated route to work when the back roads are faster just because they seem harder on paper. Sometimes the obvious choice is the right one even if it doesn't look as fancy.

Did the same thing when I was sealing my own deck last summer. Tried two different sealers on a hidden spot on the back step, and the cheap one actually worked better than the expensive stuff. Made me look real dumb for spending extra money.
