From my Vegas flooring job, I learned travel gigs aren't for me

Most installers I know say taking jobs in cool places is awesome, but I firmly disagree. The high rate got wiped out by extra costs and lonely nights in a casino hotel, lmao. I'd take a steady local project any day.

Yeah, I fell for that once too. The high rate is so tempting until you're eating another sad hotel room meal by yourself. My judgement is clearly not great, ha.

Read an article saying high contract rates are basically danger pay for loneliness. They called it the "misery premium" for being stuck away from your normal life. Makes you weigh that cash against eating another sad room service burger.

Dubai was my loneliest year, all glass towers and empty evenings.

That misery premium is real. Learned to build a routine fast, even a dumb one. Find the one coffee shop that feels normal, go to the same gym. It's not about making friends, it's about not feeling like a ghost in a hotel room. The money's good but you have to hack the loneliness part.
