My shop's speed bonus system is wrecking our rep

We skip important steps to hit targets. Now I fix bad jobs every week.

Speed bonuses drive business by getting more cars through the bay. Customers often care more about quick turnaround than perfect detail work. Maybe the targets just need fine-tuning instead of scrapping the whole system. A fast shop that makes money can afford to fix the occasional mistake. Have you considered that without those targets, your overall output and pay would probably drop? What specific steps are you skipping that you think customers truly notice?

Matthew's point about fine-tuning the targets hits on the real issue. When the speed bonus makes you skip things like a proper seal on a windshield or a full brake check, it's not a minor detail. You end up with a comeback that takes twice as long to fix, and that kills any profit from the first fast job. The system is backwards if the reward makes you create more work for yourself later. You need targets that pay for doing it right the first time, not for creating next week's repairs.

But that quick turnaround often means repeat visits later, right?
