That $50 self leveling underlayment I tried was a total scam
I was doing a small bathroom job last month in a old house where the subfloor was pretty wavy. Saw this new self leveling underlayment at the supply house, cost me $50 a bag, thought it would save time. Mixed it up exactly like the instructions said but it never flowed out right. Ended up with a lumpy mess that I had to grind down with a diamond wheel, wasted like 4 hours. Anyone else get burned by a product that just didn't work as advertised?

Grind down a lumpy mess with a diamond wheel... sounds less like a product failure and more like you just didn't mix it right or the temperature was off. I've seen guys blame the bag when they didn't even let it sit for the right amount of time before pouring. People act like losing 4 hours on a $50 bag is some kind of tragedy... it's a Saturday morning, not a career-ending setback. Honestly, half the time when stuff like this happens it's user error, not the product being a scam. Might be worth checking your mixing paddle or the water content before you write off the whole category.

What brand was it specifically?

Right! I had a bag of Rapid Set a while back that turned into a total clumpy disaster. Followed the instructions to the letter, even used a thermometer to check the water temp, and it still came out like chunky peanut butter. Ended up just tossing it and grabbing a different bag from the same brand that worked perfectly fine. It's frustrating when you get a bad batch.
