Three straight jobs over in Denver where the subfloor wasn't flat enough
Kept seeing wavy plank joints after a week on site. Pulled out my 6 foot level and found dips close to a quarter inch in spots. The GCs said it was fine but I started charging for leveling compound upfront. Has anyone else noticed builders skipping the flatness check on new construction?

Three straight jobs where the subfloor wasn't flat enough" - wait, THREE? That's wild to me. I mean, idk how anyone can look at a quarter inch dip and just say "it's fine" with a straight face. Maybe it's just me but that sounds like they're setting you up for a callback before you even finish.
Like, how do these GCs not understand that wavy plank joints are going to show up and look terrible? And then it's your name on the install, not theirs.

Maybe they're trying to dodge liability if the slab cracks later.

Nah, that's giving them too much credit. More like they just don't want to deal with the callback.

Actually read a piece online about how some companies are using delays as a way to push people toward paying for upgrades. Sounds like a sneaky way to avoid a real fix.
