Well that sounds about right for any home improvement project I've ever been involved with. Hope your socks weren't too expensive.

Heard a contractor on a podcast say basements are basically giant sponges for moisture, so this tracks. At least you weren't wearing wool socks, those take forever to dry out (ask me how I know after a similar incident with a wet vac). The Chicago humidity probably made that water feel extra cold too, ugh.
