Watched a crew demo a 1960s kitchen floor in Atlanta and they didn't test for asbestos first
They just ripped up that old sheet vinyl without masks or anything, I had to walk away because I didn't want to breathe that air. Has anyone else run into crews that skip testing on old glue down floors?

The real kicker is that even the newer "safe" stuff they replace it with can have issues, but nobody talks about that part. @anna717 you're right about the South being wild west for demo work, but the bigger problem is the homeowner who watches and doesn't say a word because they're scared to stop the job and pay for a test. Back in the day, that glue was basically pure asbestos and the paper backing was too, so it's not just the tiles that get you, it's the whole sandwich of nastiness. I've seen guys rip up 80s floors with zero protection and honestly, they probably get more exposure from the daily drive through traffic than the one job, but that doesn't make it right.

Is it just me or is that how every demo crew in the South operates? I watched some guys in Charlotte pull up old linoleum from the 70s, no masks, no testing, just a crowbar and bad attitudes. The dust was so thick you could taste it from across the street, which is super gross when you think about all that old glue and backing material. I called the city on them but by the time someone showed up they were already done and gone. These old floors are ticking time bombs with asbestos in the mastic if nothing else.
