Cracked a ladle liner during a pour last Tuesday

I was running a 400-pound bronze pour at the shop near Pittsburgh and heard this sharp ping halfway through. Turned out the liner had a hairline fracture from thermal shock that I missed during preheat. Anyone ever test liners with a simple tap test before pouring?

Ran a quick tap test on my liners ever since a similar crack cost me a full 500-pound pour. Took a metal rod and gave each liner a few light taps before heating to listen for a dull thud instead of a clear ring.

Does a cracked liner ring different from a wet one?
