Debate: Manual ramming vs jolt squeeze on greensand molds

I was at a small job shop in Toledo last Thursday watching them pack molds. One old guy was hand ramming every corner with a peen and the younger guys were just hitting it with a jolt squeeze machine. The hand rammed mold came out cleaner but took 3 times as long. Which do you lean toward for production work? I see both sides.

That bit about the hand rammed mold coming out cleaner changed my mind, I see the quality difference now.

Hang on @cora_west5, is it really that big of a deal though? I've seen both methods and honestly the difference isn't always night and day.

From what I've seen in my own shop, the hand packed ones actually hold up better over time since you can control the density without air pockets. Your mileage may vary depending on the clay type though.
