Heads up on those new ceramic fiber blankets from the supply catalog

Spent $450 on a roll for a furnace patch, and it crumbled to dust after two heat cycles. Anyone have a better source for refractory linings?

Try a local industrial supplier, their stuff usually holds up way better.

Yeah, I saw a thread on another forum last month where a bunch of people were having the exact same problem with that brand. They said it was like the binder just vaporized. I ended up going with a local industrial supplier for my last project, the stuff they had felt way more dense right out of the box. Lasted through a whole season of firings without any issues.

Honestly that's just how things go now, cheap stuff falls apart fast. Feels like every product is built to be replaced, not to last. Tbh it's getting harder to find anything made with real care.

My local hardware store has a whole aisle of that disposable junk now, it's depressing. @jordan511 is right, the whole business model is built on you coming back in six months. I bought a cheap orbital sander last year and the pad fell off before I even finished the first project.
