Hit 500 pours on the old core machine without a single blowback
I mean, I've been running that thing for three years and I never really kept count. Our foreman pointed it out yesterday when he was checking the logs. It's just a basic manual unit, not one of the new automated ones. Has anyone else had a run like that with older gear? Feels like a weird little win.

Read somewhere that some of the old core presses from the 80s are still chugging along in smaller shops just because the maintenance is so simple. Do you think it's more about the operator or the machine itself?

Hang on, do you think the operator matters MORE than the machine for that kind of streak?

Old manual presses just run forever if you keep them clean.

Sure they last a long time, but forever is a stretch. Parts wear out no matter how clean you keep it. Gears strip, levers bend, threads get sloppy. Seen a few old ones that are basically just for show now because the castings cracked. They're tough but not magic.

Yeah, that's a solid run for sure... but "forever" is a bit much. Seen a few of those old manuals finally give up the ghost when a key part you just can't get anymore finally goes. They're tough, but they're not invincible. It's more about hitting a sweet spot of luck and good care before something gives out.
