Just survived a 14 hour shift with a broken induction furnace
Tuesday we had the main inductor go down on our big furnace around 9 AM, so I spent the whole day running a patched setup with a handheld pyrometer instead of the new one, and somehow we still got 12 pours out before 11 PM. The heat was unreal, like standing next to a blast door for hours, and my boots literally started peeling at the toe. Has anyone else dealt with a furnace failing mid-week and had to improvise with manual temp checks, or is my shop just cursed?

Feel you on that one, man. I had a similar nightmare back in March when our quench tank decided to spring a leak right before a big run, and I was stuck babysitting the temp with a handheld gauge while dodging steam clouds. My forearms are still a patchwork of little burn scars from that week. The boot peeling thing hit home too, I lost a brand new pair of steel toes to a splash of slag that literally melted the laces together. It’s not just your shop, this stuff happens at the worst possible time, and somehow nobody warns you about the mental grind of trusting your eyes over a sensor for twelve hours straight. You got 12 pours out though, that’s honestly a miracle, most crews would’ve called it at lunch.
