Spent $400 on a fancy digital pyrometer, my old analog one was better

Last month I bought one of those digital pyrometers with the Bluetooth app, figured it would be the smart move for our aluminum pours. After three shifts of fighting with the probe lag and the app crashing, I went back to my old needle gauge that cost $40 at a flea market in Gary. The digital unit gives me readings that jump around like a squirrel, while the analog sits steady and I can trust it. I lost that $400 on a tool that just makes me doubt myself, so I'm sticking with what works. Has anyone else regretted switching to high tech melt temps, or is there a brand that actually behaves?

Ha, so much for "progress," right? Bluetooth and a fancy app just mean more ways for the tech to fail when you actually need it. I'll take a needle that wiggles steady over a screen that gives me a headache any day.
