Client tried to add a non-compete clause after I already signed

I was looking over a contract I signed a month ago for a web design gig and noticed they stuck a non-compete in the fine print. I never agreed to that during negotiations. It would have kept me from working with anyone in their industry for a year. I called them out on it and they said it was a standard template. Has anyone else had a client sneak stuff into a contract after the fact?

Yeah it was a 'standard template'" - my friend got hit with that exact same move last month.

Wait, was it really the same exact move or just something that looked similar? Because I've seen a lot of people mix up basic knee bars with a standard heel hook setup. Your friend might have gotten caught in a common submission that looks the same but isn't actually the same technique. The positioning and the grip are totally different once you break it down. I'd double check the details before calling it a copycat move. Just saying, a lot of white belts think everything is the same when it's really not.
