My accountant told me to always put a kill fee in my writing contracts, and it just saved me $2,500.
A magazine editor ghosted me after I submitted the first draft, but the contract let me invoice for 50% of the total. Has anyone else had a client vanish like that and been glad they had a clause for it?

Mary's point about it saving her makes me wonder if we're all just avoiding the real problem. It's a good short term fix, but what happens when the same issue comes back next week? We might be setting ourselves up for a bigger headache later. Sometimes the easy way out just kicks the can down the road.

My old car had a check engine light I just kept clearing for two years. It felt fine until the whole transmission went on the highway. That's what these quick fixes feel like now.
