Funny how people just assume you're the one in the wrong when you're trying to set clear boundaries. Most folks don't realize a simple laugh can say more than any contract ever will. Goes to show that confidence and trust are built on small everyday actions, not just pieces of paper.

Buddy of mine learned this the hard way at his kid's soccer game. He told the coach his daughter couldn't do extra practice because of a family thing, and the coach just LAUGHED it off like it was a joke. Next thing you know, my friend's getting texts from other parents saying he was being difficult. Meanwhile the coach was the one ignoring the boundary he set clear as day. A laugh can definitely be a weapon when people want to make you feel small for standing your ground.

Read a psychology article once that said laughter can be a form of social control, basically shutting people down without a fight. @the_mary nailed it, confidence is built on those small moments more than any contract. Funny how a laugh can set the whole tone of a negotiation.
