Warning: My first freelance contract was a single text message
Honestly, I agreed to build a website for a friend's band in Portland with just a 'sounds good' text and a handshake. Took me three months and they kept adding stuff, like a merch store I never planned for. Now I use a simple two-page contract from a site called Docracy that lists exactly what's included, and it saved me last week when a new client asked for five extra pages for free. Anyone else have a go-to template they swear by?

Heard a podcast where a lawyer said a text can be a contract, but proving what was agreed to is a nightmare. Your docracy template is smart because it makes things clear up front. I learned the hard way too, doing a logo for just a meal and beers, then they wanted it on everything. Now I won't start a thing without my own simple list of what they get. That boundary stops the "just one more thing" creep dead.

Isn't it wild how often people try to push past clear lines?

It's like people treat clear lines as a suggestion for negotiation.

Read a freelance writer online say a simple text agreement saved her from a client adding unlimited edits.
