Been freelancing in Ho Chi Minh City for 6 months now, seen local shops pay $50 for a basic Shopify setup while Western clients want full stores for $200
The local guys just want something that works, but the foreign clients expect custom themes and SEO for peanuts. Is it better to chase volume with local clients or quality with picky international ones?

Local shops pay $50 for a basic setup" - that's exactly why you go after them. A hundred of those pays way better than ten foreign clients who keep asking for revisions.

A hundred of those pays way better" - but does it though, after you factor in the time spent dealing with a hundred different people chasing down payments and scheduling pickups? Those ten foreign clients might ask for revisions but they usually pay upfront and don't haggle over every stupid little thing, right? Or is the volume play actually working out for you long term?
