A client told me my invoices looked 'unprofessional' and it hit hard

Last month a regular customer said my itemized invoice looked like a kid's homework because I used a free template from Canva. They said it made me look like a side hustle instead of a real business. Anyone else had a client call out something small that made you totally rethink your whole process?

Swap to a proper accounting tool like FreshBooks or QuickBooks. I had a similar issue about two years ago and switching to a real invoicing platform changed everything. Those free templates scream amateur no matter how much you tweak them. A clean, simple layout with your logo and consistent fonts makes a huge difference. Also set up automatic payment reminders so you don't have to chase people down manually. What software are you using right now for your invoices?

Couldn't agree more. I used to mess around with Excel templates for my freelance side gig and it was a disaster. Customers would email asking what numbers meant or if the total included tax. Switching to FreshBooks was like a breath of fresh air. The automatic reminders are honestly a lifesaver especially when you work weird hours like I do and forget to chase payments. Plus the reporting side of it helped me actually see where the money was going. Took me way too long to make the switch but once you do you'll never look back at those templates.

Autopay reminders alone saved me hours of awkward follow-up emails every month.
