Finally cracked the math on my quarterly estimated tax payments after three full days of wrestling with spreadsheets and IRS publications

I kept overcomplicating the safe harbor rule and ended up paying a $150 penalty last year because I thought I had to guess my exact income, but turns out I just needed to look at last year's total and pay 110% of that, has anyone else spent way too long on something that was simpler than they thought?

I know someone who filed an entire extension just because they couldn't find their W-2 in their junk drawer.

Wait, they just gave up and filed an extension because of a junk drawer? Oh man, I feel that pain in my soul. I've been there where I'm tearing the house apart looking for some random piece of paper and it's just hiding in plain sight. My W-2 ended up stuck between some old takeout menus once, I swear. Sometimes the simplest things turn into the biggest headaches.

The 110% rule saved me too after I got nailed with a penalty. I spent two whole evenings trying to calculate my exact self-employment income before a CPA friend told me to just use last year's number. Felt like an idiot but hey, that's the tax system for you.
