Finally realized I was underpricing my retainer clients for years

I had a client last month casually mention they thought my $500 monthly retainer was a steal compared to what they paid their last freelancer. When I asked, they told me that person charged $1,200 for similar work. That's when it clicked - I had been basing my rates on what I thought was fair instead of what the work was actually worth. After some research in Dallas, I bumped my base retainer to $900 and just signed two new clients at that price. Has anyone else had a moment where a client accidentally revealed you were way off on pricing?

Right there with you. I had a client tell me they budgeted way more for my services and I just about fell out of my chair when they said the number. Made me realize I'd been leaving so much money on the table just because I was scared to ask for what I was actually worth.

Read an interview with this therapist who said clients actually respect you more when you charge higher rates. It's wild how we psych ourselves into thinking we're being greedy when really we're just being fair.

Yeah, that $500 to $1200 jump is a pretty big gap you missed.
