Got paid in nickels once by a guy who ran a car wash in Tucson

I did a bookkeeping cleanup for this dude who owned a self-serve car wash outside Tucson. He insisted on cash payment and when I showed up he handed me a ziploc bag with 40 rolls of nickels. Turns out he didn't trust banks and just hoarded all his coin laundry money in his garage. Ended up being $200 worth but it took me 25 minutes at the grocery store coin counter to cash it in. Has anyone else gotten paid in weird denominations from a client?

Does getting paid in weird forms just come with certain jobs or is the whole country slowly reverting to a barter system? I cleaned out a storage unit for an older lady once and she paid me with a 1990s TV set and a bag of oranges from her tree. The TV still worked but it weighed about 80 pounds and I had to haul it up three flights of stairs. You start noticing how many people have their own little rules about money once you do work outside of a normal office setting. It's like everyone's running their own personal economy and cash is just a suggestion.

Man I had a guy pay me once with a half eaten bag of dog food and a promise to "get me back next time." @rowan_ross that TV story is brutal though, at least the oranges were light.

Cash is just a suggestion" Not around here, @charlieh74, banks work fine for most of us.
