Had my laptop crash mid-invoice last night in Denver
Was up at 2am finishing a $1,200 invoice for a project I wrapped last week and the screen went black right as I hit save, turns out the power brick finally gave out after 3 years of daily use and I had to retype everything from memory this morning.

Oh man, that is brutal. I had almost the exact same thing happen to me last year in Seattle. I was on hour 6 of a freelance design project, had this huge file with like fifty layers, and my laptop just shut off with no warning. Turned out the internal battery had swollen so bad it popped the trackpad loose. I had to pull the whole thing apart and unplug the battery just to get it running on the power cord again, and of course I lost about an hour of work because auto-save hadn't kicked in. It's always when you're doing the most important stuff too. You'd think after three years I would have learned to buy a backup battery or at least a surge protector, but nope. Hope you got that invoice out okay and didn't have to pay any late fees or anything.

Man... "fifty layers" and the battery popped the trackpad loose? That's wild. I can't believe you had to actually take the whole laptop apart just to get it running again. I would have been so mad I'd probably have thrown the thing across the room. Losing an hour of work on a freelance project is rough too, that's basically a whole afternoon wasted. I've never had a battery swell up like that, but I've had a couple close calls with power outages during deadlines. It's always the worst timing, isn't it?

Maybe it's just me but @samreed are you sure auto save was even on with that many layers?
