30
I finally stopped chasing 30 day terms and switched to net 7
An old painter I sub for told me last year that waiting 60+ days for payment was my own fault for letting clients set the terms. He said I should demand payment within a week of invoicing or tack on a 5% late fee. I thought he was crazy but after losing $4,200 on a slow payer in Austin, I gave it a shot. Now I send invoices with a bold "Net 7" at the top and my last three clients paid within 5 business days. Has anyone else tried cutting their payment window way down and seen a difference?

Honestly I used to push for 30 days too but this makes way more sense.

Yeah the 30 day thing never really worked for me either.

I switched to a 10 day trial and that was way better for me. I think a lot of people get overwhelmed by the 30 day commitment mentally, even if they don't realize it. For me, I just set a timer on my phone for 10 days and told myself I had to stick with it no matter what til that alarm went off. After day 7 I actually started to see changes so I just kept going on my own. That short window made it feel less like a chore and more like an experiment. Probably why it actually stuck this time around.
