I switched from invoicing net-30 to net-7 and lost two clients in the first month
I started freelancing full-time nine months ago in Austin and always used net-30 terms because that's what everyone said was standard. After I switched to net-7 three weeks ago to fix my cash flow, one client straight up cancelled and another asked for a 15% discount to stay. Has anyone else tried shorter payment windows and seen clients push back like this?

Totally agree, it's like how I changed my coffee order and the barista looked at me like I was crazy.

Right, four times I've switched milk types at my local spot. The barista still just gives me this blank stare like I'm speaking a different language.

Gotta push back a little here on the coffee thing. Baristas actually see people change their orders all day every day, so unless you asked for something completely wild like a hot latte with ice cubes on top, they probably didn't care that much. You might have just caught them on a bad day or maybe they were zoning out during your order. I've been that guy standing behind someone who dramatically changes their drink every single time and the barista just nods and types it in like a robot. Trust me, they've seen way weirder stuff than someone switching from oat milk to whole milk.
