My cousin told me to just 'charge what you're worth' and it backfired hard
I bumped my rate from $25 to $45 an hour for editing work and lost three regular clients in one week, now I'm scrambling to fill the gap. Has anyone else had a rate increase tank their steady income like that?

Three regular clients in a week over a $20 difference? Honestly, that feels a little dramatic. Unless you were doing a ton of volume for each of them, losing three people that fast sounds like you scared them off more than anything. You jumped from $25 to $45 which is almost double, and suddenly with no warning. Tbh, I'd be more worried that your regulars were barely hanging on at $25 and just needed a reason to leave. Ngl, scrambling for new work sucks, but it might just be a reset, not a disaster. Calm down and see what shakes out in a month.

Did you give them any warning before bumping it that much?

Nah, a heads up would've been the smart play. Jumping from $25 to $45 with zero notice is a good way to lose people. Give them a month or two warning next time so they can adjust.
