My rate jump from $45 to $65 an hour felt risky until I saw the difference after 3 months

I was charging $45 an hour for web design for two years straight. A buddy in the same city told me he bumped his rate to $65 and actually got fewer but better clients. So I tried it in April this year and expected to lose work, but instead my income went up by about $1,200 a month. The key was I started getting people who paid on time and didn't ask for endless revisions. Anyone else seen a big change after raising rates by $20 or more?

My buddy told me the same thing for years and I thought he was crazy... then I tried bumping my rate $15 and saw the exact same thing happen to me.

Honestly @evan_grant70 I get where you're coming from but I see it a little different. Sometimes you just gotta think about who your customers are and what they can actually afford to pay.

My friend Jen did the same thing with her graphic design work. She went from $50 to $70 an hour last fall and she was honestly terrified for a whole month. Instead of losing clients, her inbox filled up with people who actually knew what they wanted and didn't argue about timelines. She told me one client even said they were relieved to find someone who didn't price themselves like a bargain bin. Now she works less hours but pulls in more money and has way less stress about chasing payments. It's wild how the right price just filters out the headaches.
