My tax guy told me to track every single mile for three months

So I bought one of those little mileage log books and tried to write down every trip, even the two blocks to get coffee. After three months, I had a notebook full of scribbles and my tax guy just laughed. He said I could have used an app on my phone that does it for you, and my handwritten mess was basically useless because I forgot half the trips. I spent maybe 20 hours total on this, and for what? The lesson was clear: don't make simple things hard. Has anyone found a mileage app that actually works without killing your phone battery?

Man, that's the story of modern life right there. We jump through these crazy hoops because we don't know the easy button exists. I used to write down every receipt for expenses until a friend showed me you can just take a picture with your bank's app. Felt like a caveman.

It's like we're all conditioned to think things have to be hard before we stumble into the shortcut, isn't it? That moment when you realize you've been doing everything the long way and feel both smart and dumb at the same time.

Right? I spent months manually tracking my work miles with a notebook and pen. My buddy saw me doing it and just said "you know your phone does that automatically, right?" I almost threw the notebook at him. Felt like I'd been reinventing the wheel every single day.

My phone's trip tracker saved me last year.
