Pro tip: I heard a client say 'I just pay what they ask' and it changed my whole pricing game

I was at a local networking event in Austin last month and a potential client was talking to another freelancer. He said, 'Honestly, I have no idea what this stuff costs, I just pay what people ask.' It hit me that so many of us are scared to charge more because we think clients know the market rate. They often don't! I raised my day rate by $150 the next week and landed two new projects. How do you figure out the absolute most you can charge without scaring people off?

Wow, I always thought clients were price checking everything. This post totally flipped my view.

Totally get that feeling @the_rose. I used to worry about that too, but found just being clear about my costs up front builds way more trust. Clients usually just want to know they're getting real value.

Yeah, that's so true. I started listing my rates right on my website last year. It cut down on so many back and forth emails. People just reach out when they're already okay with the price. It saves everyone time and feels more honest from the start.

Yo I read a study that said most clients don't even comparison shop, wild right?
