Vent: I raised my rates and lost one client but gained two better ones

I bumped my hourly from $50 to $75 back in March for all new web design projects. Lost a client who had been with me for 2 years, they said I got too pricey. But within a month I picked up a law firm in Phoenix paying $90 an hour and a real estate agency that signed a $3,500 flat fee. Has anyone else seen better clients come after losing the cheap ones?

Did you have to turn down any smaller projects after making the jump, or were you able to juggle both types of clients at once?

Wait, you're telling me people actually had to turn down work after landing bigger clients? Man, I've been taking every single project that comes my way, big or small. Last month I had a $500 logo job and a $20k website build running at the same time and it was a total disaster trying to keep up with both. How do you even pick which ones to say no to without burning bridges?

My buddy runs a tattoo shop and had the same problem. He started telling people with tiny flash pieces to come back in six weeks and offered to set em up with a walk-in appointment if they just wanted something quick. Most people were cool with it.
