Just realized flat fee contracts can backfire badly
Took on a freelance contract review job last month for a small business in Austin. Charged a flat $350 because I thought it would be quick. Turned into 14 hours of digging through their vendor agreements. Lesson learned: always estimate hours first on unfamiliar work. Has anyone else gotten burned by flat fee pricing on complex cases?

@michael803 totally nailed it, flat fees on complex work is basically gambling with your time lol.

Man, did you do that thing where you think you're quoting one price but end up working for less than minimum wage? That exact thing happened to me last year with a local coffee shop's lease review. I charged $400 thinking it was a simple renewal, turns out they had three different subleases with weird amendments that took me about 12 hours to sort through. I learned the hard way to always include a clause that says if it goes over X hours the price adjusts or I walk.
