Stop using 'hereby' in your freelance contracts

I saw a post in a lawyer forum last month and realized every time I wrote 'hereby agrees' in my contracts, it sounded like a legal doc from 1950. Switched to plain English like 'you agree' and clients actually read the terms now. Has anyone else noticed fewer signing delays after ditching the old language?

Is the legalese really the main hangup though? I've been rewriting my contracts in crayon-level simple English and still get the same delays because people just don't want to read at all, regardless of the words I pick. @henry150 is onto something, "you agree" is just legalese with a fresh coat of paint.

Hmm, "you agree" is still legalese though...

Legalese" isn't really a rule about specific words though.
